New Delhi: A 90-year-old man has written to the broadcaster of the television show ‘Indian Idol’ to express his disappointment over the act of political favoritism in the season finale episode.
In a strongly-worded complaint to the broadcasting company, Gurugram-based Mr. Padam Narayan Kapoor alleged that political color was given to the show to garner votes for a contestant.
“It is appalling how a 20-second clip of the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was aired on national television in favor of Pawandeep Rajan, which helped him garner votes from the region and win the show,” Mr. Kapoor said, referring to the series finale episode.
Notably, 23-year-old Pawandeep Rajan, who hails from Champawat in Uttarakhand, won the 12th edition of Indian Idol on August 15.
The nonagenarian went on to say that same was not done for other contestants which, in his opinion, were more deserving. “As an admirer of Indian classical music, this act of favoritism has left me distressed,” he said.
He went on to say, “I have been watching your esteemed show since the time it first aired. In my humble opinion, political color should not have been given to it to ensure that there is a level playing field for everyone.”
Mr. Kapoor added, “I am of the view that if the Chief Minister of one state gave a statement in favor of a contestant, the same should have been done for others or for no one at all. This is the kind of standard I expect from a reputable organization like you.”
He urged the channel to not give such preferential treatment to any contestant in the future so as to warrant an organic collection of votes from their valuable viewers.
